Just spoke to the Hyperoptic guys to arrange the set-up day and they mentioned they will need to do a small whole around the flat entrance and that the wire will be visible... not very keen on spoiling my flat´s look! ... Does the connection looks clean and tidy at yours? ( paul)

Does that mean that there will be visible wires in the common areas then, and is this allowed in the development? Bob

No wires in common areas Bob as the development has already been wired up about a year ago! They basically bring the wire in from the roof of the corridor immediately outside your flat and take it to the cupboard where your standard phone point is currently -you can pay them to extend this if you want to place your router elsewhere -we put ours into the living room to get better wifi signal.
Argayu -i don't think i can post pics on here so either call round to 59 gaumont and i'll show you the wiring or send me your email and i'll send you a couple of pics of it.

Many thanks paul I´m sending you a private message then. Them wiring and diggin holes for that doesn´t sound great; I did somehow took for granted the Square installation would somehow ease the connection.

Hey again, I checked paul (thanks!) Hyperoptic´s installation and despite it looks pretty much tidy, I´m not so keen to get a couple of holes and wires across the flat…. Maybe here I´m too conscious about my home´s looks or is it just that in spite I use a lot the internet (work, skype, etc) I hardly upload any large data chunks. It is however a bit disappointing that such an advanced product as Hyperoptic it has to rely on the good ol´ wire… I believe in the Strata building (Elephant and Castle) it can be service by the utility cupboard; with no extra wiring. Nevertheless, I´m moving out of TalkTalk as after 5 years with them, they keep on extorting me with a £37.70 monthly fee (and they are not willing to put it down). Out of the different options out there (Sky, Plusnet, EE…) any that you fellow residents would particularly recommend (or avoid at all costs)? Thanks.

Hi argayu -its purely down to barratts signing the deal with them after the works were complete on building dalston square, so all the wiring for hyperoptic had to be retro fitted...in all current barratt developments its installed from the outset so no wires!

Hi I have been with Sky since moving here 4 years ago. Despite having reservations for obvious reasons, I have to say they are very good. I have never once had a problem with my connection, and my speed is consistent and fast enough for everything that I need it for. I have unlimited calls to all numbers on my mobile so with my landline I don't pay the £4 a month extra for free evening and weekend calls, i just pay the basic rental as I never use the landline. Hi argayu, like you I didn't want a visible wire in my flat. So I got some wire off Hyperoptic and employed a contractor (Sputnik TV Ltd) to run the wire through the ceiling void into the cupboard where the boiler is. Cost was around £95 and took him around 2hrs. He put in a little hatch into the ceiling in the cupboard so it looks very tidy. I've got the Hyperoptic Engineer coming in next week to connect the wire, install the port and setup the router. sputniktv.co.uk/

Hi folks - I'm moving in to Sledge next week and whilst we're on the subject of Internet.... Can we get sky? I see in the paperwork that no satalittes are allowed to be fixed to the building. Does anyone have sky/sky Internet? - can we have it and is it fast enough in the building?

Hi Chloe, I've had Sky tv and Sky broadband for the last couple years and had no issues with either. There is an aerial socket in each flat for satellite TV and broadband-wise not had any speed issues; fine with on-demand, Netflix, etc.
