Organised by Dalston Councillor Peter Snell, there are 2 meetings coming up that may interest anyone with an eye on historic Dalston and it'e buildings. This from Peter:
And here a poster for the second of those meetings:

Labour promised to review Conservation Area coverage of Dalston but the March Forum meeting was very concerned that the current proposals, which apply only to the A10 and some adjacent streets, showed that the Council is not committed to preserve the important buildings it owns in the Dalston Community, Creative and Cultural Quarter (DCCCQ) based around Ashwin Street and Gillette Square. The Ashwin Street area is not included either within the existing Dalston Lane West Conservation Area or the proposed Dalston (Kingland High Street etc.) Conservation area. At the Forum Meeting we promised to have these concerns addressed. Those who did not make it to the Conservation Area publicity event in the Kingsland Shopping Centre can find out more about the proposals at a further meeting organised by Dalston Resident, Lisa Shell, of the Hackney Society and Rio Cross Association. I have organised the second meeting as a sub-group of the Dalston Forum with an agenda focussed on your concerns about heritage building previously or currently owned by the Council. A meeting notice and agenda is attached.
MEETING 1. RIO CROSS RESIDENTS' MEETING:
What would a new Conservation Area mean for you?
Tuesday 12th May 2015 7pm
Rio Basement
Hackney Council have invited local residents to give their views about a proposed new conservation area that will include John Campbell Road, Gillett Square and the east side of Boleyn Road, as well as Kingsland High Street. Information on the Hackney website can be found HERE. The deadline for comments in 25th May 2015. Members of the Rio Cross Residents Association and local residents are invited to a meeting on Tuesday 12th May at 7pm in the basement of the Rio Cinema to discuss the implications for residents, home owners and businesses. Please let your neighbours know! (PS - See my note about my actions over the consultation at the end of this email)
MEETING 2. DALSTON FORUM HERITAGE BUILDINGS MEETING
Council plans for the buildings it owned or still owns.
Monday 18th May, 2015, 7pm
Greenhouse, Eastern Curve Garden
See notice attached for details
NOTES;
1. Ann Robey is the consultant who wrote the Dalston Conservation Area report. I spoke to her at one of the sessions in the Kingsland Shopping Centre and she said she had previously been involved with Hackney Planners in a review of current and possible Conservation Areas so that their boundaries clearly reflected a consistent architectural style that should be protected. She says it was this review that prompted the Council to separate the Dalston Lane West and Kingsland High Street areas. Whatever the reason I’ve told Cabinet Member, Guy Nicholson, and Officers, they need to restore public confidence in the Councils commitment to preserve Dalston’s heritage. I hope that I will be given a timetable for extending the Dalston Lane West Conservation Area to include the DCCCQ before the meeting on 18th May.
2. I have extended the previous emailing list for the Forum to include Hackney Organisations with well used websites, residents who coordinate neighbourhood mailings lists, Dalston based community businesses and various active citizens. If you do not want to receive these mailings please email Council support Officer, Nye, at the email address above, and ask for your name to be removed. But we’d prefer you to post it on your website, send it to your networks or simply ensure you, or someone you know, comes to the meeting.
I’ve averaged one campaign session a day for the last month so had planned to recover by cycling with friends from Bath to St Ives starting tomorrow. Given the general election result I now need that break more than ever. Do email me with any concerns and I’ll deal with them when I return on Saturday 16th May. I hope to see you at the second meeting listed above. I would urge you respond to the current Conservation Area consultation even if only to say it does not protect the buildings you treasure most..
Regards
