The source of the odour problem in Sledge Tower entrance lobby has been located. A temporary fix has been put in place so the odours do not continue. A permanent fix is being devised and it will be remedied shortly. The temporary fix is working as the leak into the sub-basement around the ply board has stopped.
Just to flesh out the above, as I know this issue has been been dragging on a while. In a discussion with Consort Development Manager Gerald Bernard yesterday I learned what exactly has been causing the problem. After much investigation and head-scratching on Barratt Homes behalf, a damp patch very recently appeared on one of the internal lobby walls. As a result a section of this wall was cut away to reveal ...... A leaking waste pipe. Yes, a sewage leak behind the lobby wall: No wonder it has been such a job trying to find the source of the odours. As mentioned above a temporary fix has been put in place and already, I am told, the smell is dissipating. A permanent fix is under way and once complete the wall will be repaired and Slegde Tower lobby will finally be odour free.
