With the 24 hour concierge service not more than a phone-call away (or at max a 2 minute walk), it is easy to forget that not everything in and around the square is their responsibility. It is also easy to overlook the fact that security is not within their duties (they are neither trained for, nor licensed to, confront people). Here then is a short list of who is responsible for what:
Anything within your apartment: From leaking pipes to non-functioning microwave ovens to insect infestations, everything within the confines of your apartment, is down to your or your landlord. Many apartments within the square (although certainly not all) are still under warranty from Barratt Homes so their customer service could well be your first point of contact depending on the nature of your issue. Phone them on 02083267100.
Communal indoor spaces: Parking garages, lobbies, corridors, lifts, and roof terraces are all the responsibility of Consort, and your first point of contact should be the concierge service: Pop in and see them or call them on 02072547341 (bear in mind that they may be dealing with someone at the desk and you may be put on hold - phoning does not entitle you to 'jump the queue'). If you do not get satisfactory resolution of your issue from the concierge, you can try Development Manager Gerald Bernard: The best option is to email him at gerald.bernard@consortpm.co.uk, or if urgent you can reach him on 02072490896 (Gerald's hours are 7am to 3pm, Monday through Friday).
Public spaces around the square: Many people still believe that the main square itself is 'ours'. It is not: It belongs to, and is the responsibility of, Hackney Council. Any problems in these public spaces, from the fountain, to street sweeping, to the maintenance of the trees and plants, to public nuisance, is down to the council. It is nothing at all to do with the concierge service. For all nuisance issues you have 2 options: 999 for emergency police issues, and 101 for non emergency police issues. For all other matters, the council can be contacted through various channels depending on the issue you wish to report. Their main switchboard can be contacted on 02083563000, or use their website HERE for further options and information.
Noisy/anti-social neighbours: I am including this last section because this is a grey area. Technically not the responsibility of the concierge service, they will act on your behalf if someone's party is excessively loud later than is reasonable. They cannot force people to turn down their music, but will ask them to be more considerate. If this does not work however, your only option is the council's noise complaints team which can be contacted either by telephone or webform. Full details, including hours of operation, can be found HERE.
All of the above phone numbers and URLs (and more besides) can be found in the right hand column of the DSRA website: dalston-square.com
