FIRE SAFETY GUIDE FOR RESIDENTS OF DALSTON SQUARE
Please read and ensure you understand the below information.
If there is anything you are unsure about, email the Development Manager: sean.stone@consortpm.co.uk
IN THE EVENT OF A FIRE IN YOUR FLAT
• In the event of a fire within your flat, you should evacuate immediately, making sure you close the door behind you to prevent the spread of fire
• As soon as you are out of your apartment, raise the alarm at the nearest fire call point and evacuate via the nearest fire exit route as indicated by the ‘green man’ signs
• Do not use the lifts
• Please now familiarise yourself with the nearest fire call point to your apartment
IN THE EVENT YOU HEAR AN ALARM OR SEE A FIRE
• If you hear a communal fire alarm or witness a fire in a communal area, stay inside your flat and wait for further advice from the fire service or concierge. All doors fitted within the development have a 90 minute fire rating which means it is safer to remain in your apartment rather than put yourself in danger trying to escape the building
IF THERE IS A FIRE IN A FLAT NEAR TO YOU
• If a fire is discovered in a flat near to your property the concierge will call the contact telephone number for every flat on that floor to make residents aware that they should close all doors and NOT try to evacuate
• You should close all doors including the balcony door and wait for further instruction
• Please update your contact details with reception if you change telephone numbers
EVACUATION OF A BUILDING
• Please note that any evacuation of a building will be under the strict instruction of the fire service when it is safe to do so
FIRE DOORS
• The front door to your flat and in the corridor are fire doors and dependant on the layout of your apartment, some of the internal doors will also be fire rated as required by building regulations.
• Doors fitted with automatic closers provide protection in the event of a fire. Do not remove these or keep doors wedged open as they are fitted for the protection of the residents and building
FIRE PRECAUTIONS
• Make sure the smoke alarm in your home is working and is regularly tested. All alarms in communal area’s are tested by the estate management at regular intervals
• Only use the heating system installed in your home. Do not use heaters with a flame such as gas, paraffin, or electric bars. If additional heating is required, use a convector heater, but only in the hall or corridor
• Do not obstruct the consumer units or any other controls and isolating switches in the electrical cupboard
• Do not prop open doors within your apartment or remove self closing devices
