I think that this place sounds like it will be great. Good look with the application and I look forward to dropping by for dinner once you are open.

I second that bob. I for one was very concerned with the original application, especially as I live in Gaumont Tower. But after meeting this young couple, hearing what they have to say, and seeing that they genuinely care (as witnessed in their efforts to alleviate our fears), they have my 100% support. Really looking forward to having a decent bakery/deli downstairs: Yum!

The letter from Melek sounds soothing, but does not actually go very far in addressing the main concern of residents, which
is late evening noise and nuisance from departing customers. Reducing the end of licensing from midnight to 11pm Monday to
Wednesday still means that on Thursday to Sunday customers can place an order for alcohol just before 12pm and then go out
onto the Square at, say, 12.30 to 1.00pm. By this time most of us are asleep in bed, even at the weekend, and do not want
to hear from people outside. As regards Thursday in particular, most adults will have to get up for work on Friday morning
and the children - of whom there are a good number around the Square - need to go to school. Everyone needs a good night's
sleep.
11pm Monday to Wednesday is obviously 1 hour better, but still could see customers coming out until 12pm.

Those of us who formally objected to the license have received an invitation from the council to attend the license hearing on January 3rd. (I've uploaded my copy to the document depository in the RA section if anyone wants to know more.) I'll definitely go to voice my change of mind. Melek and Murat have truly alleviated all of my concerns by listening to our concerns, removing most of the the things that may have caused noise issues and by being genuinely nice people. Martin, I understand that night time noise is still a concern, but to me the issue are now potentially anti social customers, not the business itself. And I really can't get myself to object to a vibrant community for fear of getting the odd rule breaker. I think if we work with Hackney Council to ensure the community wardens make a pass here in the evening, noise can be limited to no more than we already have here.

Does this mean that 'dalston hipsters' are now welcome to use the square and it's facilities?

Bob: of course! But even the majority of 'hipsters' resident on the Square need to get up for work early in the morning.

Had a quick peak through the windowlene on the windows of the new bistro and it's looking pretty funky! Does anyone know when it's due to open?
Also, does anyone have any more information on any of the other units? There was talk before Christmas of a gastro pub opening in close proximity to the square, but i haven't heard or seen anything further...

In the last DSRA meeting, we heard that the empty unit in Phase 2 is going to be a spa and beauty salon - a large one by the sounds of it. A number of people had heard about other plans, but I'm not sure how firm any of them were. At some point there was talk of a noodle bar (but I haven't heard any more of that).

As this issue has been resolved and the cafe is about to open, time to put this thread to bed to make way for other, still relevant topics.
