I finally got round to testing Stuntdolly, the new hair salon on Kingsland Road (582 Kingsland) and must say I'm sold.
The interior is really nice and despite having all of the signs of East London chic, it doesn't feel pretentious or contrived to me. In fact, there was nothing pretentious about the place, which to me is a huge selling point.
Having just wandered in on Saturday morning, I was given an appointment to see Dean, one of the two founders, on Sunday afternoon. Probably a feature of their relative newness, but I love to be able to be spontaneous with the timing. Both times I went in there, I got a warm welcome from all staff, and really felt that they were interested in me rather than just my business. The two guys are fiercely local, so we had a good chat about the area and exchanged some tips on local life.
Then I was offered a really coffee, which came with a little bowl of popcorn - a lovely little extra I think. Dean really took time for his consultation asking what I wanted, giving ideas when I said that I was up for creative input. And, most importantly, he did not try to upsell any costly additions like colouring. Three cheers for that.
The hair cut was as good as the advice and the cost similar to what I'm used to from my usual place in Soho. And without the cumbersome travel to Central.

Hi Tine,
We recently moved to the development and I was also looking for a hairdressers nearby. Going to stunt dolly was a great experience - attentive staff, professional advise on my hair, funny owner who I had a great chat with and a bowl of pop corn made my day.
Thank you very much, Julia
